We have built more than 350,000 houses around the world. Over a 1.75 million people live in Habitat for Humanity homes. A Habitat for Humanity home is built every 21 minutes.

Africa & the Middle East

Habitat for Humanity is making progress:
- Habitat for Humanity builds in 27 countries in Africa and the Middle East
- We have built more than 32,569 houses in this region
But problems still persist:
- Unemployment in Botswana is nearly 40 percent
- Only 5 percent of rural houses in the Central African Republic are built of permanent materials
- 80 percent of the population of Addis Ababa is homeless or lives in substandard housing.

Asia & the Pacific

Habitat for Humanity is making progress:
- Habitat for Humanity builds in 28 countries in Asia and the Pacific
- We have built more than 27,174 houses in this region
- Nearly two-thirds of the region’s 3.5 billion people live in substandard housing conditions
But problems still persist:
- 500,000 families in Australia live in housing-related poverty and 100,000 families are homeless
- One quarter of Fiji’s population of 800,000 lives in poverty
- India faces a shortage of 41 million houses
- More than 50 percent of Nepalese people live below the poverty line
- More than 4.2 million families in the Philippines lack decent shelter

Europe & Central Asia

Habitat for Humanity is making progress:
- Habitat for Humanity builds in 17 countries in Europe and Central Asia
- We have built 552 houses in this region
But problems still persist:
- 50 percent of people in Armenia live below the poverty line; unemployment is 20 percent
- In 1995, nearly 95,000 houses in Portugal were deemed substandard.

Latin & Central America

Habitat for Humanity is making progress:
- Habitat for Humanity builds in 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean
- We have built more than 57,822 houses in this region
But problems still persist:
- An estimated 500,000 Bolivian families live in substandard housing
- At least 20 million people in Brazil live in unacceptable conditions. 100,000 people sleep rough
- In 1997 – before Hurricane Georges hit the Dominican Republic – the housing shortfall was already estimated at 600,000 homes
- The housing deficit in Ecuador is about 1.2 million; some 800,000 families are without an in-home drinking-water source.

North America

- Habitat for Humanity builds throughout the United States and in Canada and Bermuda
- We have built more than 56,736 houses in this region
But problems still persist:
- 5.4 million families in the US and Canada are homeless or live in substandard housing.
