1. Overview of Habitat for Humanity Ireland:
Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-profit housing organisation. Its mission is to eliminate poverty housing from the world, and to make adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Since 1976 it has built more than 500,000 homes worldwide housing more than 2.5 million people. It has bases in more than 90 countries.
HFH Ireland was founded in 2002 and since then it has sent more than 1700 volunteers overseas to build houses in partnership with local communities. It has built or renovated 10 homes in Dublin and partnered with three other non-profits to renovate their housing facilities for their clients. More than 1500 people have volunteered on these projects in Ireland.
Habitat for Humanity Ireland is now seeking an International Volunteering Programme Intern in the Global Village Department.
2. Main Responsibilities:
- Support and monitor communication between team leaders and overseas offices throughout the planning stages of volunteer trips
- Use and update AdWords to promote specific volunteering projects overseas.
- Maintain contact with past volunteers including organising a call centre to update them on our activities
- Attend volunteering and careers fairs in Universities/ Corporation and Schools to promote overseas volunteering trips.
- Working on the Global Village marketing strategy to ensure the successful promotion of volunteering trips.
- Work with the Global Village finance team to update database systems
3. Necessary Skills and experience
- Overseas Volunteering Experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- A professional phone manner
- Strong and committed team worker
- Self-motivated, energetic and detail orientated
- Proven ability to work without close supervision, to use initiative and meet deadlines
- Proven ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Excellent ability to multi task
- A good working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and Publisher
- Excellent knowledge of using social networking tools and CMS.
- An interest in poverty and inequality issues
- Comfortable in communicating the ethos, vision and values of the organisation
- Fundraising and volunteering experience desirable
- Degree in development, international relations, media, communications, marketing or other relevant field desirable.
4. Duration
This internship is for a period of 6 months. This post is an unpaid internship. However travel expenses will be covered.
