16 house build in Ballyfermot

Habitat for Humanity Ireland will commence its largest build to date in Ireland in 2009 when it breaks ground on a site for 16 houses in Ballyfermot.

The units based in the Elmdale Estate will be three-bedroom houses, each with front and back gardens, and a car parking space. These houses will be built in partnership with Dublin City Council, building sub-contractors and in partnership with selected families, volunteers and local communities. Priority for homeownership will be given to local people who are seeking an affordable home-ownership opportunity in the area.

Since it’s establishment in Dublin in 2002 Habitat for Humanity Ireland has been involved in building and refurbishment projects in Ballymun and Ballyfermot as well as running a programme which enables Irish volunteers to work on projects abroad. In 2005, RTE’s About the House had a special feature on HFHI’s Ballymun regeneration project.

Homeowners are selected to partner with Habitat for Humanity Ireland based on the following criteria: need for decent accommodation, ability to make affordable mortgage repayments [income level], and a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity Ireland. Partner families contribute 500 hours ‘Sweat Equity’, putting their time into the building of their home. All applicants must be on the Dublin City Council housing waiting list. Habitat for Humanity Ireland works in partnership with EBS Building Society to provide affordable mortgages for partner families.

All interested families should contact Habitat for Humanity Ireland at 01-6299611 or .
