- Over 1.6 million people are infected with HIV/Aids in Mozambique
- As a generation of parents die in Mozambique, they leave behind a social vacuum and more than 1.5 million orphans, 500,000 due to HIV/AIDS.

Habitat for Humanity Mozambique provides comprehensive support for orphaned and vulnerable children, including a trio of sibling boys left homeless in the wake of family deaths and a tragic fire. Watch this video on The Manhiça Brothers.
Volunteering in Mozambique
Join us in August 2012 and travel to Mozambique to help building homes with local communities. The programme in Mozambique offers volunteers from all over the world an opportunity to become part of its efforts through building homes alongside families through Habitat´s Global Village program. The provision of decent shelter, improved sanitation and secure tenure have proved to be vital in reducing the risk levels of OVC from vulnerability against the growing number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Mozambique.
On location you will live and work alongside local people, carrying out construction work on site (from laying bricks to painting walls) and participating in cultural activities off site. Our unique programme offers, not only the chance to build much needed homes, but the opportunity to build real relationships with communities in need and develop an understanding of the problems they face.
The volunteers will build an 18 m2, 2-room brick house that provides a simple, decent and safe shelter – secure locks on the outer and internal doors are placed to provide additional security for these vulnerable families.
Watch the video below to see Habitat for Humanity Mozambique in action.
Volunteering in Mozambique
Day 1
You will arrive to Maputo and you will be met at the airport and transferred to your destination (approx. 3-6 hours drive) in Gaza.
Day 2
You will receive an orientation briefing from the Host Coordinator, you will learn about Mozambique and Habitat’s work, local culture and safety onsite. You will be also welcomed by the local community. The work begins.
Day 3 – 7
You will be working onsite between 8AM to 16PM in partnership with the local families. You will be digging foundations, laying bricks, plastering walls, painting, cleaning the site.
In the evenings you will have time to meet the local communities and learn about life in Mozambique.
Day 8-9 (Rest and relaxation)
Due to Mozambique’s location with vast stretches of coastline and unlimited numbers of unspoilt beaches there is never a shortage of activities to be enjoyed. Mozambique therefore offers itself as a great place to indulge in scuba diving, snorkelling or fishing. If this is too strenuous, simply relax and enjoy the tranquillity of a deserted beach. There are also many beautiful towns with colonial architecture which you can visit.
Day 10 -13
Back to work! (See day 3-7)
Day 14 (Dedication ceremony)
For most of the volunteers dedication ceremony is a highlight of the trip. This is a time when you see the outcome of your work when the house keys are handed over to the family.
Day 15
You will be travel to the airport and then head home.
