Aisling Smith’s Story
Aisling Smith and her mother recently moved into a Habitat home in Ballyfermot, Dublin, which was renovated as part of Habitat for Humanity Ireland’s Local Programme.
Until recently 18-year-old Aisling Smith was living in a one-bedroom council flat with her mother Marie, in Ballyfermot, Dublin. Aisling and Marie had been sharing one bedroom for fourteen years. The flat was so cramped that there was no room for a kitchen table and all meals were eaten on the couch.
Habitat for Humanity Ireland partnered with Dublin City Council to renovate a derelict house inCroftwood Drive, Ballyfermot, for the mother and daughter. Marie is delighted with their new home and says that the new living situation has really made a difference to her daughter’s life: “She needed her space and the effect now with her is huge. I was on the Dublin City Council waiting list for 14 years, so my big chance to move was with Habitat, and I grabbed it.”
