Become a Team Leader
We are currently recruiting Team Leaders for our Open Teams for 2010. If you have volunteered with us before, or have related leadership experience and are over the age of 25 please consider applying for this rewarding role.
Criteria
Leadership within the Global Village Programme is a position that should not be entered into lightly. It is a position of tremendous responsibility that requires commitment, vision, determination, clear thinking, courage, generosity, and accountability. It is also a position that brings with it vast rewards.
When a person applies and is accepted to a position of leadership for a Global Village (GV) team, they form a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. In the partnership, Habitat for Humanity Ireland commits to supporting the team leader through formal training and regular mentoring as they plan and implement their Global Village experience.
Responsibilities
Applicants for GV Team Leadership must be prepared to:
- Make a personal commitment to fulfilling these roles and responsibilities (will require personal/professional time from now until after return)
- Work closely with all team members, Habitat for Humanity staff in Ireland and Habitat for Humanity staff/volunteers in hosting country to fulfil our aims and objectives for Global Village
- Accept responsibility for administrative management of finances, documentation and travel arrangements
- Understand the Christian ethos of HFH and be committed to supporting team members participation in the spiritual dimension of the GV trip as appropriate
Training
Our Team Leader training will cover the following topics:
- Ethos, purpose and spirit of the trip
- Team building – recruitment, preparation, building, leadership
- Culture – importance and impact on a GV trip
- Fundraising and finance
- Planning and Logistics
- Health Safety and Security
- Challenges faced on a GV team
- Team meetings in country
- Past leaders panel
- Re-entry and debriefing
A HFH Programme coordinator will be assigned to each team to support them through the process before, during and after their trip.
