The partnership, funded by the company’s philanthropic arm MetLife Foundation, will engage employees working alongside homeowners and community members in Habitat homebuilding, home renovations and community renovation projects in Bulgaria, Egypt, England, Hungary, Ireland, Jordan, Lebanon, Poland and Romania.

“The idea for Community Week came directly from our colleagues across EMEA. More than 750 employees in 21 markets across EMEA volunteered last year and told us that they want to do more this year with Habitat for Humanity,” said Michel Khalaf, MetLife EMEA president and MetLife Foundation board member. “Community Week offers them a fantastic opportunity to give something back to the communities they work in.”

This week, MetLife is volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Ireland on its ‘A Brush With Kindness’ programme, whereby it collaborates with like-minded organisations to renovate or refurbish their facilities for their service users, with the goal of building healthy, resilient communities. MetLife and Habitat for Humanity Ireland are partnering with the Sean O’Casey Community Centre in East Wall, Dublin 3. The centre provides vital community services in the local area, bringing together both young and old, by encouraging them to be active members of their community, as well as providing a space to socialise, take part in various activities throughout the year and to support the local community’s educational and personal development. Volunteers will be painting and decorating the community centre over the course of the 3 days.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with MetLife for a second year,” said Vinnie Cunningham, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat for Humanity Ireland. “Through this event, we are able to support Habitat’s mission in Europe, Middle East and Africa.”

MetLife Foundation has a long tradition of supporting initiatives that engage MetLife volunteers in activities that improve quality of life and increase opportunities in the communities they serve.

About Habitat for Humanity Ireland

Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Its work is based on the conviction that access to simple, decent housing provides a ‘hand-up’ for families to lift themselves out of poverty and create a brighter future for their children.

Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped 6.8 million people to improve their housing conditions. It works in Ireland and 70 countries around the world.

Habitat for Humanity Ireland fundraises to support the global mission and sends volunteers overseas to build homes in partnership with local families. There is also a local renovation programme in Dublin which partners with Dublin City Council and with other charities to increase access to simple, decent housing for low-income families and vulnerable groups.
