Sri Lanka is facing economic and politic collapse; marked by spiralling inflation, power blackouts, shortages of fuel and food. In this humanitarian emergency millions of families face acute shortages of basic necessities and facing an uncertain future.

Women like Ranjani are being forced to make impossible choices.

The crisis is making it difficult to afford to feed her 13-person family, some of whom have challenging medical conditions.

Currently, they are only able to have two meals a day, mostly consisting of plain rice.

For almost 30 years, Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka has provided decent and affordable housing for 27,000 families in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities across the country.

Habitat’s Response

In the face of this crisis, Habitat Sri Lanka’s Emergency Relief programme will support hundreds of the most vulnerable families with emergency dry food ration packs in the communities where Habitat works. Habitat Sri Lanka is also providing cash grants, which will help more than 1,600 vulnerable families meet their urgent needs.

At a time when the cost of living is impacting us at home, and there are many demands on us all, I ask that you remember the words of Thomas Fuller who said “Charity begins at home but should not end there”. Together we can reach out with practical help and hope for the people of Sri Lanka.

Just €32 will buy an emergency food pack & €40 can support a cash grant for a family in need.

Whatever you can afford will make a difference. Donate today.
