Baz Ashmawy, popular television personality, went home to Egypt with Habitat for Humanity!
Baz travelled to Egypt with five of his mates in November 2010, and joined a Habitat for Humanity build in a village four hours outside Cairo.
With no machinery, limited tools and using local building methods, Baz and his friends worked alongside the local community.
“The families really needed the Habitat for Humanity homes, and working as volunteers meant we could help them make a big step in that direction.
Being in Egypt with the lads was a great opportunity for us to have a laugh and take some time out for a very worthy cause. I think everyone should do it”
Habitat for Humanity Ireland’s Executive Director Karen Kennedy travelled with the team to Egypt.
Ms Kennedy says,
“Everyone knows that Baz is up for a challenge and building in Egypt is something very different to what he has done before. The lads could see the very real difference having a proper home made to the families and were able to be part of helping them get that”
