Every family Habitat for Humanity serves is unique, with different needs and challenges. There is no one-size-fits-all housing solution, but there are many ways to help.

At Habitat for Humanity Ireland, we have an ever expanding toolkit of construction services. This enables us to serve more families, increase opportunities for volunteers and expand our base of sponsors. Most significantly, it revitalises the entire community, strengthens connections within society and refurbishes derelict homes.

Partnership

Our partnership with Dublin City Council renovates derelict houses around the city centre which are based in areas which have access to essential services and a strong community support network. This initiative enables low income families to become first time homeowners and keeps access to affordable housing on the agenda of Dublin City Council and the Department of the Environment.

We believe in giving a ‘hand up, not a hand out’. Families are selected from the Dublin City Council housing lists according to their level of need, their ability to repay a small mortgage and their willingness to work onsite.

Families undergo a Habitat Ireland training programme which takes them through processes such as obtaining and maintaining a mortgage, budgeting on a monthly basis, DIY and home management.

Volunteers from the local community and corporate sector give their time, money and talent to support the project. This encourages inclusive, active citizenship and promotes understanding between people of different backgrounds.

Projects

We have recently completed the renovation of four homes in Inchicore and have big plans to develop our partnership with Dublin City Council over the next three years.

In the past, we built four new homes in Ballymun with Dublin City Council and Ballymun Regeneration Ltd.

We also refurbished 2 homes, one in Ballymun and a second in Ballyfermot.

At Habitat for Humanity Ireland we have big plans to scale our impact with this programme over the next three years. There are hundreds of derelict houses and many more families in need of simple, decent, affordable homes. Will you join us?
